Shifting to competency-based learning begins with a clear concept about grade-level outcomes with a focus on high expectations of complexity and cognitive rigor. Using backward design principles, teachers recognize a variety of learning trajectories, develop multiple learning opportunities for accessing the class content, and provide authentic demonstrations of master of learning.
